Beta Final Week Roadmap: Oct 21 Realm Shutdown, 48-Hour Stress Test & Oct 27 Name Reservations
Blizzard has outlined the final sprint of the WoW Forever closed beta. Mark your calendar for the October 17–19 Scourge Invasion stress test event, the October 21 beta realm shutdown, and the official October 27 character name reservation window ahead of global launch.
With exactly seven days remaining before the WoW Forever closed beta servers go dark on October 21, Blizzard Entertainment has officially published the end-of-beta transition roadmap, headlined by a weekend Scourge stress test event and character name reservation details.
48-Hour Beta Send-Off & Scourge Stress Test (Oct 17–19)
To stress-test server layering, sharding thresholds, and high-concurrency combat prior to global launch, Blizzard will conduct a 48-hour global stress test starting Friday, October 17 at 12:00 p.m. PDT and running through Sunday, October 19 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.
Stress Test & Send-Off Event Highlights
- ▸Scourge Outbreak: Crates of contaminated grain will spawn across Stormwind, Ironforge, Orgrimmar, and Undercity, exposing testers to the infectious Zombie Plague mechanic.
- ▸World Boss Rampage: Game Masters will summon Azuregos, Lord Kazzak, and colossal Abominations directly into Crossroads, Sentinel Hill, and Southshore.
- ▸Maximum Server Stress: Realm population caps will be intentionally pushed beyond standard limits to measure server engine stability and latency under massive world PvP combat.
- ▸All-Spec Freedom: Class trainer respec costs remain locked at 1 silver, and all characters retain their 16 granted Legacy points throughout the weekend.
October 21: Beta Realm Shutdown & Complete Character Wipe
The closed beta realm will officially shut down on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Following shutdown, all beta characters, temporary Legacy perk allocations, bank items, and testing guild data will be completely wiped clean in preparation for live realm deployment.
October 27: Character Name Reservation Protocol
Players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or active game time can begin reserving character names on live WoW Forever realms starting Monday, October 27, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PDT (6:00 p.m. EDT).
Name Reservation Rules & Realm Types
Each active subscription account can create and hold up to two (2) characters across the entire global realm list prior to launch.
Realms will launch under five dedicated rulesets: Normal (PvE), PvP, RP (Roleplay), RP-PvP, and Hardcore (Permadeath with free Classic Era migration upon demise).
PvP and RP-PvP realms will enforce active faction population balancing at character creation to prevent one-sided server populations.
All reserved characters will immediately unlock when World of Warcraft: Forever launches worldwide on November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST.
